Recommendations of the Athletics Task Force

An Athletics Task Force established in summer 2025 and made up of students, faculty, staff, and community members has submitted a report to President Michael E. Spagna with recommendations for reestablishing Division II athletics at Sonoma State. The Athletics Task Force recommendations are a starting point for how athletics might be reincorporated at Sonoma State in the coming years.

A fiscal feasibility plan is now needed to determine how athletics could be sustainably reimplemented.

A Fiscal Feasibility Team will be created to make a comprehensive and thoughtful assessment to determine whether and how athletics could return in a way that is financially sustainable and aligned with the university’s academic and fiscal priorities.

Based on the Fiscal Feasibility Team’s findings, the university anticipates identifying a potential path forward for Sonoma State athletics by summer 2026.
