Office of the President
The Office of the President supports multiple initiatives tied to the university's mission. These initiatives primarily cover community interactions with Sonoma State University, seeking to provide students, faculty, and staff more opportunities in SSU's six-county service area and beyond.
The Office of the President is composed of the following units, which support the President's engagement with the University's service area.
Government and Community Relations
Sonoma State University's Office of Government and Community Relations serves as the central point of contact between SSU and elected officials for the purposes of advocacy, information sharing, and effective partnering. Central to this role is building strong relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials and their staff. To further the interest of the university and its students, the Office of Government and Community Relation works with students, faculty, and staff on campus as well as CSU staff in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.
Office of Tribal Relations
The Office of Tribal Relations leads Sonoma State University’s efforts to build, repair, and foster relationships with sovereign Tribal Nations and serve as an ambassador between the campus and Tribal Nations. Office of Tribal Relations holds Sonoma State accountable to the needs, interests and priorities of Tribal Nations, communicates Tribal concerns and interests to campus, and develops structures and processes to ensure Tribal Nations have input on campus priorities, initiatives, and efforts that impact Native people.
Office of Tribal Relations Supports:
- Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and CalNAGPRA repatriation/compliance processes
- Center for Environmental Inquiry (CEI)
- Native American Studies minor
- The Native American Initiative
- The HUB Center
