CFO Leadership Update

As part of Sonoma State’s reimagining and evolution, I want to share an important step forward in aligning our leadership structure with the University’s current needs and future direction.

The establishment and development of the San Francisco Bay Region Network (SFBRN) has significantly changed how several administrative functions are delivered at Sonoma State, San Francisco State, and Cal State East Bay. Information Technology, Human Resources, Procurement, Accounts Payable and Travel, and Accounting and Financial Reporting are now supported through SFBRN, with additional opportunities for shared services continuing to be explored.

This realignment of services creates an opportunity to think differently about the former Vice President for Administration & Finance position and reimagine it to reflect the university’s financial and operational collaboration and strategy needs going forward.

To that end, I am pleased to announce that effective immediately, Mike Ogg will assume the newly established role of Chief Financial & Administrative Strategy Officer, reporting directly to me and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Mike will serve as Sonoma State’s Chief Financial Officer while also providing leadership for financial strategy, administrative operations, institutional effectiveness, and cross-divisional collaboration. These reimagined duties will strengthen connections between the University’s academic mission and the financial and operational infrastructure that supports it, while helping ensure our shared-services model continues to meet Sonoma State’s needs.

Mike brings valuable perspective and abundant institutional knowledge to this work. As Associate Vice President for Academic Resources, he has led academic resource and budget planning while working closely with our colleges and with the University Budget Advisory Committee. Earlier in his Sonoma State career, he held roles within both Athletics and Administration & Finance. His experience across academic and administrative environments strongly positions him to bridge these areas and support institution-wide decision-making.

This change also creates an opportunity to thoughtfully realign related work and resources. In partnership with the Interim Provost, budget and resource support will be organized across Academic Affairs and the University while creating greater flexibility to align resources with academic programs and priorities.

I know you will join me in congratulating and thanking Mike for stepping into this role. We look forward to his leadership and partnership in advancing Sonoma State’s academic mission, financial strategy, and university operations.
